Julia James Burns

Australian author and photographer based in Fremantle, Western Australia.

Julia was born in Perth and graduated from the University of Western Australia with a B.A. and M.B.A. and worked in the U.K., Italy and S.E. Asia in international trade, business development, the arts and education.

For 13 years Julia lived on Wadjemup Rottnest Island with her family but now lives in North Fremantle with her husband and two sons.

Her short stories have won or been shortlisted in a number of prizes including shortlisting in the Hope Prize in 2024. In 2026 she completed her first novel based on her experiences of living on Rottnest.

She is also very proud to be a Committee Member of the Festival of Fiction.
